The Perfect Valentines Day Gift

Friday, February 3, 2017

It’s that time of year again when love is in the air and you’re expected to show just how much you care about your significant other.  Are you still struggling to think of the perfect gift? Sure you could get a box of chocolates paired with a dozen roses and call it a day, but if you want to give a gift that’s not so generic, we’ve put together the list of the top four best Valentine’s Day gifts.

  1. Cockroaches, specifically hissing cockroaches.  The Bronx Zoo has about 58,000 Madagascar hissing cockroaches available to name in honor of anyone you love. For only $10 you won’t find a more durable gift. The Bronx Zoo is owned by the Wildlife Conservation Society, and they donate the $10 naming fee directly to the charitable association. Even if you find roaches more repugnant than romantic, you might find supporting this cause will be a worthwhile gift for this upcoming Valentine’s Day.
  2. Green Beetle Earrings. Wes Anderson fans will go crazy over these realistic Green Beetle earrings remarkably similar to Suzy Bishop’s pair. Complete with legs, antenna, and wings, these metallic green earrings are sure to be the center of attention at your next social gathering. ***Warning: if you see these beetles in your drawer or on your dresser don’t forget they’re acrylic. While we’ll be happy to take your money, there’s no need to call an exterminator at the site of these particular beetles.
  3. Valentines Day Gift Pack. The Edible Bug Shop has a Valentines Day special featuring all of their best selling products. From roasted crickets, mealworms and dehydrated ants, give your significant other the gift of health and sustainability with all the nutrients packed into these snackable bugs. As an added bonus, the gift set contains an “I Ate a Bug” button so you can proudly advertise your new found addiction for crunchy crickets with a nutty flavor.
  4. Virtual Ant Farm. Is your significant other fascinated by ants and/or virtual reality? If so, this Antopia Adventure Virtual Explorer is the perfect gift. Complete with virtual reality goggles and app, you can view 3D models to learn an ant’s anatomy. As well as explore underground ant farms and learn about a day in the life of an ant. This is must buy for the secret entomologists out there.

We hope that these gift ideas didn’t make you cringe too much and maybe even gave you a few laughs. As pest control experts, we love finding quirky gifts related to bugs. If you still haven’t made up your mind on what to get, we really do suggest the Garlic & Chili Roasted Crickets (they’re better than they sound!).
